In the production of composite components, press systems are used whose process stability depends largely on a constant supply of cooling media. Especially in large-scale systems and at high cycle rates, robust, switch-stable valve solutions are required to prevent pressure fluctuations and failures.
At a glance
- Industry: Composite manufacturing
- Application: Coolant supply for press systems
- Medium / Process: Coolant circuit under dynamic load conditions
- Challenge: Pressure surges, high switching frequency, requirements for service life and process stability
- STASTO solution: Pressure-controlled poppet valves with modified pilot valve
- Result: Stable media supply, reduced load on components, reliable continuous operation
The challenge
In press systems for the production of composite components, uniform and reliable cooling is essential for the quality of the parts produced. The cooling circuits used must operate consistently even under changing load conditions.
Due to the size of the system and the associated high flow rates, significant pressure changes occur in the system when the valves are switched. At the same time, the high switching frequency results in heavy mechanical stress on the components used. Standard valves quickly reach their limits here, particularly in terms of service life and switching stability.
In addition, the components used must require minimal maintenance, as downtime in such systems involves significant organizational effort.
The STASTO solution
To ensure a stable supply of cooling media, pressure-controlled seat valves were used that are specifically designed for operation under dynamic operating conditions. These valves enable controlled opening and closing even at high differential pressures.
A central element of the solution is a modified pilot valve that specifically reduces pressure peaks during the switching process. This significantly minimizes pressure surges in the system, relieving both the connected piping and the downstream components.
The selected valve design also ensures a high level of tightness and reliable operation even at high switching frequencies. Thanks to their robust construction, the components used are suitable for continuous operation under demanding conditions.
The integration was carried out in close coordination with the plant manufacturer, ensuring that the valve technology could be optimally integrated into the existing system. Particular emphasis was placed on a maintenance-friendly arrangement and a clear system structure.
The result
By using the customized valve solution, a stable and consistent supply of cooling medium could be ensured. Pressure surges in the system are reduced, which lowers the mechanical load on the entire system.
The components used are characterized by high reliability in continuous operation and contribute to increased operational safety. At the same time, maintenance requirements are reduced, as the valves are designed for a long service life.
Overall, this results in a robust and reliable solution that meets the requirements of modern press systems.
